Buddy Up!
Ages 13 – 18
Earn community service hours and share friendship, fluency, and confidence with an elementary aged book buddy here at the Essex Library. Each teen volunteer (aged 13-18) is paired with a younger reader (aged 4-8) for a relaxed hour of literacy fun.
Ms. Jess and Ms. Nicole will provide the supplies, activities, and environment, but most of your time will be spent reading aloud with a younger student. Registration is required to ensure that each reader is matched with a mentor.
Teen Art Workshop: 5 Ways to Make and Owl
Ages 13 – 18
Are you a fan of this nocturnal creature? Join us for a relaxed art and crafting class as we: print, draw, sculpt and paint owls with recycled materials. You’ll leave with at least five expressive owls to share with your friends.
This free class provides all needed supplies. Registration is required.
Take & Make – Tiny Art Show
Ages 12+
Month of March
Scoop up this supply kit and gain a tiny canvas, paint set and wooden easel. There’s always room for art! The Teen Department creates a monthly series of free make and take art projects for our crew. Ages 12+ please! First come, first serve.
Send a photo to jbranciforte@essexlib.org or show us your finished project for a chance to be honored in our crafty D.I.Y. hall of fame.
Teen Contest – Spring Haiku
Ages 12+
Month of March
Capture the essence of spring in the traditional Japanese format. Share your original three line poem (first line: five syllables, second line: seven syllables, third line: five syllables,) and be entered in the running for a small writing prize.
We’ll turn our submitted poems into a spring display for the teen area and share your words with the world (if you’d like!) Email your haiku to Jessica at jbranciforte@essexlib.org.
